Located at the top of the hill, we find what in the past was the protagonist of numerous armed conflicts, the castle of Begur<\/strong>. After more than a thousand years of history, it has become one of the symbols of the town.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Origin of Begur Castle<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The castle’s origins date back to the 11th century when, in 1019, its construction began by order of Arnust of Begur.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although this is the initial date of construction, the building has suffered multiple attacks and destructions and has had to be rebuilt and restored on several occasions.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The castle of Begur and the war conflicts<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Due to its strategic geographical location, the castle has been the target of numerous attacks and has suffered a total of three major destructions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The first took place in 1468 during the Catalan Civil War<\/strong>. Secondly, in 1694 during the French incursion<\/strong>. Last but not least, against the French during the War of Independence<\/strong> in 1810<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Over the years, the castle was owned by many different people. Until 1604, Begur Castle<\/strong> was privately owned and passed through the hands of such personalities as Arnust de Begur, Udalard Gausfred, Countess Ermessendis, Dalmau Bernat de Peratallada and Gilabert de Cru\u00eflles<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The castle currently belongs to Begur Town Council<\/strong>, which restored it in the 20th century. However, of what was once a glorious castle, only its foundations remain. If you visit the castle, you will find the base of the keep, some walls and its characteristic battlements.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
